Confidence’ is always at the heart of what I do. The term originates from Middle and Old High German around the year 1000 and, according to the Duden dictionary, means “firm trust in a positive development in the future, in the fulfillment of certain wishes and hopes”.
Confidence is often equated with hope. While the latter looks outwards and makes success dependent on other people, things or the environment, confidence is inherent in looking inwards. Confidence goes hand in hand with the trust that something can turn out well, so that we focus on possibilities that we can consciously approach and influence ourselves.
- Mindfulness enables us to focus on possibilities, which strengthens our confidence
- Confidence is a good way to deal with difficult emotions by facing them and not worrying about being overwhelmed by them.
- Resilience is based on confidence, which makes it a valuable companion in crises and challenges of all kinds
- Compassion is characterized by the motivation to help and support others and the confidence that our actions will make a positive difference
- Finally, it is confidence that generally drives us into action with the perspective of being able to make a difference or change something
